Hopewell Council 7103 holds its council-level free throw competition every January. Participants do not need to be affiliated with the parish, and there is no cost for the competition. The competition takes less than an hour and is open to any boy or girl ages 9 to 14 (age determined as of January 1).

Participants take 15 free throws after a brief warm-up. Winners of each age bracket are invited to participate at the district-level competition, and some of the past participants have gone on to win the state level competition.
